Wednesday, April 22nd, 2009

Are you having a runny nose and itchy and watery eyes? Are you having sneezing bouts and that tingling at the back of your throat? These are the most common symptoms of allergy.

I have been reading up to find out ways to get relief from these common allergy symptoms and thought that I will share it here. I am hoping that it might be of help to someone.

Here is a list of the most effective ways to find relief from common allergies.

Use Nasal Sprays and Nasal Strips

Nasal Sprays help to clear the nasal passages. Nasal Strips help to gently open nasal passages and helps with breathing through your nose, thereby reducing snoring.

Take care when using Vacuum Cleaners

When vacuuming or dusting, remember to always wear a mask to prevent inhaling any dust that will stir up your allergy.

It is a must to vacuum your bed once a month with a good vacuum cleaner to remove dead skin. An accumulation of dead skin in your mattress will breed a colony of dust mites, which are another source of irritation. Get rid of feather pillows, which are yet another source of dust mites.

Use Dehumidifiers

Dehumidifiers remove moisture from the air and reduce humidity. They can be helpful with respiratory problems and help with mould allergies. Choose one that can be easily cleaned and runs quiet.

Invest in Air Filters

Since air quality is very important to those suffering from allergies it is wise to invest in a good quality air filter. If you have central heating in your home be sure to get a good quality furnace filter and have your furnace serviced at least once every two years.

Choose correct Bedding

Take care to pick up bedding and pillows made from material like cotton, wool, or silk that are non-synthetic and doesn’t irritate the skin.

Allergy Medications

Some allergies need you to see your doctor as you may require a prescription. Your doctor can help you identify whether you need anti-histamine, decongestant or a nasal spray.
