Managing stress at work place.

Thursday, July 1st, 2010

Stress at work is one of the leading causes of health and psychological problems today especially in these downside times of economy.  There is a major difference between challenges and stress when it comes to profession. People enjoy challenges , though it may require some hard work it gives pleasure and satisfaction. It doesnot drain your energy or mood. Stress on the other hand is an hinderance to success. It can cause emotional issues like loss of interest , social withdrawal , family issues , temper , frustrations  or physical problems like high pressure backaches , stomach problems and many other.

There are a number of ways one can cope with this stress at work  . Though many of us know  all this , it doesnt occur to us to try them. It stays as one of those problems that has solutions but one doesnt try out. It may be hard to ask somebody to quit such jobs and try a new one especially due to financial reasons but there are other alternatives to relieve this stress at work place .

One of the best solutions to relieve stress of any kind is walking away from the situation . Now at work place this is not often possible but one can always walk away for a short while. Give some time to yourself. Get some air. This doesnt mean go out and smoke. Smoking will only increase your problems . Go for a walk at your luch time . This gives relaxation to both body and mind. Also perspiration is a great stress reliever. It can alleviate your mood and give you lot of energy to think straight. Go for some work out after work hours.

Sometimes being alone for a while relieves lot of stress.  Find some clean place like a beach or park or view some pleasant sight or listen to some music after work hours .  All this doesnt require lot of time . Five minutes may be all that you need.

Do something that you enjoy like going for a drive or knitting or reading.

Some jobs demand more work time and going for work outs may not be an option. In such cases relax your mind closing your eyes by breathing in deeply and slowly exhaling for atleast five minutes.

Sleep well. This relaxes your mind and gives you lot of energy.

To relieve stress the best way is to focus on the cause of stress. Prioritise the issues. Is it really worth all the stress? Is it something you can sort by talking to someone or getting help. Never accept more work load then you actually can deliver. Talk to your boss if thats an option. Due to the increased lay offs there are lot of places where the works usually done by three or four people are now served by fewer.  This leads to more pressure workload and time constraints. In these situations prioritising the tasks helps greatly. Get help from friends and let go of ego.

Sometimes a good laugh helps relieve all tension.

A clean environment is a great stress reliever.  Organise your stuffs. Dress up well . Give some time to pamper yourself .

Good communication and healthy relationships with coworkers is yet another important factor when  it comes to work. There should be no place for ego . Give your best to any work .  Negetivity and worrying will not lessen your problems instead result in more problems .

Always remember, things may go wrong but its not the end of anything. After all everyday is a new day!  Expect for the best and give in your best!

Friday, June 12th, 2009

Face book the most outstanding social networking system today has announced that vanity URL will be available to all profiles and fan pages at 12:01 EST on the 13th of June 2009. This means that the usual code facebook.com/profile.php?id=abcxyz where abcxyz were numbers will be replaced using an username, and the name is going to be on a first come first serve basis. The name should be at least five characters and include alpha numeric characters eg: facebook.com/first name. This way the search engine will direct you to your face book page first. User profiles created today after 3 pm will not be eligible.

Now users can find you more easily! So visit Facebook.com/username to claim a vanity URL. The URL cannot be changed once selected. So there is definitely going to be a rush with all the millions of face book users to grab names of their choice once they go live tonight especially common names like john brown.

While it opens up lot of opportunities on one hand there seems to be lot of speculations about how users will react to this once face book goes live tonight. It does make connecting easier and compete with other social networks like Twitter but there seems to be concerns about privacy.

Dell and Della

Wednesday, May 20th, 2009

It seems like Dell has come up with a very innovative strategy to market their netbooks and laptops. They recently introduced a range of products aimed at enticing ladies who prefer “style” even for laptops.

Check out the Della website. If you are a lady who likes Dell products and loves fashion, then this is the site for you.

The new range of products comes in many pretty colors that are quite attractive.

A host of accessories like laptop cases, laptop sleeves and handbags to fit laptops also accompany the netbooks and laptops.

This move by Dell has generated a lot of comments especially from women, some of which are quite critical. However, if one looks from a non tech savvy, casual user’s point of view, the products are very appealing. I find it so hard to imagine how such a move could have offended so many women.

There are a lot of women out there who are not technologically inclined and would love to own a stylish product such as this. And Dell says that the rate of purchase has been higher than what they expected.

Having said that, however, Dell has been paying close attention to all the comments and feedback and they are making quick changes to the Della website. They have made the tech tips section more technical and plan to incorporate more business-oriented products and information.

So ladies, loosen your purse strings and get ready to shop for style!

Fashion for working women

Tuesday, April 7th, 2009

A wide misconception is that fashion means luxury! This is because people think that to look fashionable you have to spend a lot of money and time. Well that’s not true!

Fashion is a statement about who you are! It’s all about clothing’s accessories and attitude! Fashion is not only for the glamorous and the rich but for everyone. Every individual should have a unique fashion statement. Your fashion choice tells a lot about you as an individual.

You choose to look the way you do .The way you look is the way you feel. Nothing makes a woman more confident knowing that you look good and beautiful. You don’t need to be slim or a size 0 to look good, it’s the attitude you choose that makes the difference. Wearing expensive or designer clothes alone does not help you .You should know how to handle your personality in it. Feel good about yourself by enhancing your looks. Here are a few tips that can make your everyday more beautiful with less time and money.

1. Wear clothes that suit your personality and lifestyle.

Never wear loose oversize or outdated clothing’s to work. Keep it simple clean smart and trendy. Jeans with a simple top should look just great on anyone. For those of you who feel you are too heavy for jeans try boot fit. If you are uncomfortable in jeans try wearing pants that fit you right. Choose colors like red, navy, black or gray. Don’t wear wild prints or colors to work. If you have to use shawls keep it short. Try not to experiment with colors and styles at work

2. Get a good hair cut that suits you.

Keep it simple but stylish so that you can manage it easily in your daily but fast and busy schedule. (Volumisers, mousses and gels can help it look and stay good for longer. This is optional.) You can simply keep a hair brush at hand.

3. Carry a purse that is small but functional. You can choose black brown or burgundy. Don’t overstuff your purse.

Carry a lip-gloss, tissue, gum or mouth freshener deo and concealer. Wear a makeup that gives you the natural look. You don’t want to overdo it. Keep it subtle and well blended.Concealer will help you with the black shadows under eye as the day ends. Dual active powder foundation is said to be the best for all skin types and best for women who do not have much time to put on makeup.

4. Keep your nails clean and trimmed. Never bite nails.

5. Don’t over accessorize. You can wear a great necklace and bracelets but don’t wear accessories that will irritate or distract others.

6. Don’t be too casual or sloppy.

Wear nice clean shoes or slippers that are comfy and stylish. Don’t wear torn or worn out shoes or slippers at work. Also avoid straps or anything that shows too much of the foot.

7. If you must carry an umbrella don’t carry it in your hand if you are not using it. Keep it in your bag.

The way in which corporate world is growing today forces you to give as much importance to the way you dress and present yourself as much as your abilities and skills.

Converting to a vegetarian lifestyle?

Monday, March 30th, 2009

I believe that healthy eating is fine – be it vegetarian or non-vegetarian. Too much of anything is harmful. From experience I believe that a mixed diet, whch is rightly balanced, is apt for all. But we need to figure out the best diet that suits us.

Having tried vegetarianism just after college, I can confidently comment on being a vegetarian. My stint with vegetarianism lasted 8 long years. It went well at first - I felt great - but I felt more and more exhausted as time went by. The problem was that I simply wasn’t consuming enough calories (which I found out later) Moreover I missed the mouth watering dishes that I used to consume earlier. Thus, if you try vegetarianism, make sure to include a lot of higher-calorie items in your diet.

I am not anti-vegetarian, just expressing my feelings and my experience. Feel free to share and express your views.
