Relief from Allergies - Myth or Reality

Wednesday, April 22nd, 2009

Are you having a runny nose and itchy and watery eyes? Are you having sneezing bouts and that tingling at the back of your throat? These are the most common symptoms of allergy.

I have been reading up to find out ways to get relief from these common allergy symptoms and thought that I will share it here. I am hoping that it might be of help to someone.

Here is a list of the most effective ways to find relief from common allergies.

Use Nasal Sprays and Nasal Strips

Nasal Sprays help to clear the nasal passages. Nasal Strips help to gently open nasal passages and helps with breathing through your nose, thereby reducing snoring.

Take care when using Vacuum Cleaners

When vacuuming or dusting, remember to always wear a mask to prevent inhaling any dust that will stir up your allergy.

It is a must to vacuum your bed once a month with a good vacuum cleaner to remove dead skin. An accumulation of dead skin in your mattress will breed a colony of dust mites, which are another source of irritation. Get rid of feather pillows, which are yet another source of dust mites.

Use Dehumidifiers

Dehumidifiers remove moisture from the air and reduce humidity. They can be helpful with respiratory problems and help with mould allergies. Choose one that can be easily cleaned and runs quiet.

Invest in Air Filters

Since air quality is very important to those suffering from allergies it is wise to invest in a good quality air filter. If you have central heating in your home be sure to get a good quality furnace filter and have your furnace serviced at least once every two years.

Choose correct Bedding

Take care to pick up bedding and pillows made from material like cotton, wool, or silk that are non-synthetic and doesn’t irritate the skin.

Allergy Medications

Some allergies need you to see your doctor as you may require a prescription. Your doctor can help you identify whether you need anti-histamine, decongestant or a nasal spray.

Natural Allergy Remedies

Natural remedies given below are also worth giving a try.

1. Mangosteen juice has been making headlines lately in helping to remove allergy symptoms.

2. Practice deep breathing

3. Drink lots of water

4. Have a daily walk in the morning

5. Avoid too much oily & fatty foods

Now , what do YOU suggest for allergy relief?

Fashion for working women

Tuesday, April 7th, 2009

A wide misconception is that fashion means luxury! This is because people think that to look fashionable you have to spend a lot of money and time. Well that’s not true!

Fashion is a statement about who you are! It’s all about clothing’s accessories and attitude! Fashion is not only for the glamorous and the rich but for everyone. Every individual should have a unique fashion statement. Your fashion choice tells a lot about you as an individual.

You choose to look the way you do .The way you look is the way you feel. Nothing makes a woman more confident knowing that you look good and beautiful. You don’t need to be slim or a size 0 to look good, it’s the attitude you choose that makes the difference. Wearing expensive or designer clothes alone does not help you .You should know how to handle your personality in it. Feel good about yourself by enhancing your looks. Here are a few tips that can make your everyday more beautiful with less time and money.

1. Wear clothes that suit your personality and lifestyle.

Never wear loose oversize or outdated clothing’s to work. Keep it simple clean smart and trendy. Jeans with a simple top should look just great on anyone. For those of you who feel you are too heavy for jeans try boot fit. If you are uncomfortable in jeans try wearing pants that fit you right. Choose colors like red, navy, black or gray. Don’t wear wild prints or colors to work. If you have to use shawls keep it short. Try not to experiment with colors and styles at work

2. Get a good hair cut that suits you.

Keep it simple but stylish so that you can manage it easily in your daily but fast and busy schedule. (Volumisers, mousses and gels can help it look and stay good for longer. This is optional.) You can simply keep a hair brush at hand.

3. Carry a purse that is small but functional. You can choose black brown or burgundy. Don’t overstuff your purse.

Carry a lip-gloss, tissue, gum or mouth freshener deo and concealer. Wear a makeup that gives you the natural look. You don’t want to overdo it. Keep it subtle and well blended.Concealer will help you with the black shadows under eye as the day ends. Dual active powder foundation is said to be the best for all skin types and best for women who do not have much time to put on makeup.

4. Keep your nails clean and trimmed. Never bite nails.

5. Don’t over accessorize. You can wear a great necklace and bracelets but don’t wear accessories that will irritate or distract others.

6. Don’t be too casual or sloppy.

Wear nice clean shoes or slippers that are comfy and stylish. Don’t wear torn or worn out shoes or slippers at work. Also avoid straps or anything that shows too much of the foot.

7. If you must carry an umbrella don’t carry it in your hand if you are not using it. Keep it in your bag.

The way in which corporate world is growing today forces you to give as much importance to the way you dress and present yourself as much as your abilities and skills.

Apple to announce new iPhones in 2009?

Tuesday, April 7th, 2009

It’s a rumor. But it’s about iPhone. So, I want to share it.

Apple might release up to 3 new iPhones in 2009. First one is a memory upgrade to 32 GB. Next one is a 2.5 G model for Asian market. And a third one will be an iPhone nano with one third of the size of the current 3G iPhone at a cheaper price.

Honestly, I am not very excited about either one of them. I have an 8GB iPhone 3G which I bought last year and I am very happy with it. I have a lot of photos, music and applications on it. I still have enough free space. But, that’s just me. I am sure the 32 GB will have its fair market share. iPhone nano doesn’t sound exhilarating either because I like my iPhone screen size just the way it is. It’s not bulky enough for me to look for a smaller version.

I have also heard another rumor which I am really excited about. iPhone might be introducing an HD version in 2009. The world is moving relentlessly towards HD and Apple will keep pace with it. Experts say that the current 3G version can handle HD signal. However, we need to hear it officially from Apple. So, let’s wait and see.

Marketing your product in times of recession

Sunday, April 5th, 2009

Marketing is one of the most important aspects for the success of a business. So that makes it even more important in a recession where many flourished and renowned businesses are struggling to survive. What thoughts should be given before you market your product?

You should consider your target consumers first .What can you do to make them think your product is different from the rest.

Today consumers are not ready to experiment with new products or services, so your product should show the reliability or how it relates to the consumer. You have to know what is in need and what the consumers are in look out for. It should not be complicated. The consumers’ expectations however don’t change regardless of the market condition. Quality added with reasonable cost and fast delivery of product or service are of course still the primary concerns for the consumers but just assuring that doesn’t make your consumer attracted to the product . The consumer needs should not be lost in the search of unique ideas.

Today people are putting off on purchases. They are seeking ways to cut down on expenses. So your target should be in showing how your product or service can save your target consumer money. It should show durability .Assess your product and improvise it to the needs and expectations of your consumers. And stress the value of your product in the market.

Businesses should focus on consumer’s investors and distributors. Instead of cutting back on advertising, invest on influencing the interest of the three. Investors and distributors have to be assured their money and the value of your product. Lay off can show that your business is running out and that creates adverse effects and ideas about your product. You are sending a negative vibe about your business.

Make the most out of the latest technologies you have at hand. You can reach out to a massive crowd through these technologies. Remember we live in a spending economy. When you retract you are contributing to the downturn. It’s not the time to be skeptical.

Job seeking in a bleak economy

Wednesday, April 1st, 2009

In a recession what would job hunters do differently compared to normal times?

Be proactive. Upload your latest resume and cover letter to popular career website such as career builder.com , Monster.com , Dice.com and Zoominfo.com. Make yourself easy to find for the potential employers. Some of the career websites even allows you to upload your photo to the profile. Go for it. When recruiters find your profile with photo, they know that you want to be found.

Subscribe to email notifications of your preferred jobs. Apply for jobs with appropriate cover letter and most recent resume.

Well, you did all that and then what? Wait for a potential employer to call you? How do you know if your resume has not fallen through the black hole? What can you do to make your resume seen by a hiring manager?

This is where you deviate from the conventional process. Try to find somebody from inside the company who can take your resume and put it on a hiring manager’s desk. You can use your social network contacts such as facebook or linkedin. Also try to find the vendors and clients of the targeted employer who could help you out. By getting a human element involved, you make sure that your resume doesn’t fall into the black hole. It never hurts to have your application brought in by more than one person or through more than one channel. You can apply online and have your resume brought in by an inside contact. It’s better to do it all at the same time rather than waiting to see the result from your first attempt to use subsequent channels.

You did what you could to make a hiring manager look at your resume. But, did you make your resume standout? One of the most effective ways of achieving this is adding testimonials on your resume. Get testimonials from your previous supervisors and coworkers. You can also include a detailed cover letter with a PS in it.
